The NDUS Department of Institutional Research (NDUS-IR) is located in the state capitol and serves as a system level organization for reporting and data services. NDUS-IR is responsible for annual enrollment reporting to the State Board of Higher Education (SBHE), oversight of required federal reporting, providing data services to NDUS system office staff, and responding to data requests from legislators and other external agencies.
NDUS-IR subscribes to ethical principles and guidelines for the protection of privacy and confidentiality of students. Our code of ethics is located here:听
The NDUS-IR department has adopted an Ethical and Responsible Use of Analytics in Reporting code.听 This code offers guidance to NDUS-IR staff when conducting research and/or reporting that utilizes analytic software.
NDUS-IR maintains the dashboard and dashboard metrics for the SBHE Strategic Plan.听 Metrics are updated on a regular basis.
NDUS is a participating member of the (SLDS).听听The Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS)听is a series of secured data warehouses comprised of historical education and workforce training data. The objective of the SLDS is to provide data on the outcomes of ND education and workforce training programs.
The 麻豆传媒社区 Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) maintains a partnership with NDUS-IR for research and data services.听 Additionally, NDUS-IR and NDDPI collaborate with the 麻豆传媒社区 Information Technology Department (ITD) on the Insights project.听 The Insights project is a set of statewide dashboards for K-12 school accountability, and is located at .
The following guidelines apply to all DPI data requests:
- All research requests must comply with Code of Federal Regulations, Title 45, Public Welfare, Department of Health and Human Services, Part 46, Protection of Human Subjects (2009) (https://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/regulations-and-policy/regulations/45-cfr-46/index.html).
- NDUS-IRD and NDDPI respect established school and district policies, procedures, and protocols regarding use of institutional, student, and personnel data for research purposes. In cases where requested data is specific to a school or school district, the data requestor may be referred to contact that school/district directly. The purpose of this is to ensure that research regarding an individual school/district is sanctioned by the said school/district.
- NDUS-IRD is not obligated to fulfill data requests for undergraduate or graduate coursework or research, including master鈥檚 thesis and doctoral dissertation research.
- NDUS-IRD will not fulfill research requests for student level data, either identified or de-identified.
- When data is provided by NDUS-IRD for a research request, NDUS-IRD will not be responsible for any aspect of the data analysis related to the research. The individual requesting the data will be responsible for all corresponding data analysis.
